10 years after 9/11/01

This is simply a list of facts that have happened since 9/11/2001.  Just in case any paranoid people have forgotten, the first fact I need to mention is that 19 terrorists killed 2,977 people on 9/11. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casualties_of_the_September_11_attacks)  Now, here’s the list as of today, 9/10/2011.

  • 6,026 US military service members have been killed in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.  1,584 in Afghanistan, and 4,442 in Iraq.  (http://projects.washingtonpost.com/fallen/)
  • The US attacked Afghanistan on October 7th, 2001.
  • No declaration of war was made.
  • The USA PATRIOT Act was signed into law on Octocber 21st, 2001.
  • The name “USA PATRIOT” is an acronym for Uniting (and) Strengthening America (by) Providing Appropriate Tools Required (to) Intercept (and) Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001
  • The Homeland Security Act was enacted on November 25th, 2002. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homeland_Security_Act)
  • The DHS includes the TSA, at a cost of $5.7 billion in 2011.
  • The Department of Homeland Security has a budget of $56.3 billion in 2011. (http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/budget_bib_fy2011.pdf)  That’s more than the COMBINED 2011 budgets for:
  • NASA – $16 billion.
  • NEA -$155 million.
  • National Science Foundation -$7.6 billion.
  • Small Business Administration – $994 million
  • Corps of Engineers – $5.9 billion
  • Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms – $1.1 billion
  • NOAA – $5.5 billion

  • As with Afghanistan, there was no declaration of war.
  • No one  in the Iraqi government – including Saddam Hussein – assisted in the planning or execution of the 9/11 attacks.
  • The WMD’s (Weapons of Mass Destruction) that Bush II and Colin Powell used as justification for the Iraqi invasion have not been found.
  • Saddam Hussein was captured on December 13th, 2003, and executed on December 30th, 2006.
  • Over 100,000 Iraqi civilian deaths have been documented.  (http://www.iraqbodycount.org/) Undocumented estimates from various surveys are much higher, up to 1,000,000. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_War#Casualty_estimates)
  • Osama bin Laden was accused of organizing the 9/11 attacks.
  • Osama bin Laden fought the Soviets in Afghanistan in the 1980’s.
  • Osama bin Laden was killed in Pakistan by Navy Seals on May 2nd, 2011.
  • Pakistan is not in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
  • The US is not at war with Pakistan.
  • The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) now requires American citizens to have passports to go between the US, Canada, and Mexico.

I could go on and on, but hopefully you aren’t W dense and you get the point.  We’ve spent trillions on increased security and military operations since 9/11/2001.  We routinely stand in lines to be patted down and scanned, without shoes, with 3 carry on liquids in 1 oz or less containers, so Barney Fife Wannabee’s can detain and feel us up whenever they want.  No warrant or probable cause needed.

Unemployment is over 9%, the federal deficit is over $1.5 trillion, the federal debt is over $14.5 trillion, nationwide housing prices are lower than in 2001, Americans are more in debt, and real wages have decreased since 2001.

How about focusing on a few of these problems instead of wasting time and money on The Bogeyman?
